Yesterday was all about jet lag, jet lag, and more jet lag. We started the day by running personal errands to get us ready for the summit this weekend. By the time we got home in the early evening we were tired, sleepy, and sneezing!😪😫 Yes... sneezing because of the dust. This was not what we were expecting because for the past three weeks there has been a lot of rain. This is the short rain season - so it is supposed to rain - well, at least at night and the sun is up during the day. As a matter of fact, google sent me a notification while in DC about the weather in Nairobi for my upcoming trip (google knows when and where you are traveling!). So Leah and I packed our clothing appropriately because google told us to it would be raining. We both packed rain jackets, beautiful $5 purple umbrellas - courtesy of Walmart, and rubber boots. Leah drove far and wide in the Albuquerque desert looking for rain boots and finally found a cute pair at Target. We thank God for Target, but it makes you wonder what the Target staff person who ordered rain boots for a store in the middle of a desert was thinking!😕😲 I think this has God's hand print all over it. In any case we want it to rain.
After supper we could hardly sit up and hold a conversation, but we pushed ourselves to finish unpacking and sorting out the school supplies we will be donating to Jamii Home located in the largest slum in Africa. We had changed our dollars to the Kenya shilling in one of the morning errands and now we had to allocate our expenses according to the budget we made for the trip. Just as we were discussing the logistics of this trip, the power went out and we were in total darkness. Helen - our precious "house manager" scrambled to get candles and a lantern for some light. I began to worry because I had not charged my phone and it was almost out of juice. How long would the power be out? Should we just turn in and finish what we were working on in the morning? How should we pack all the school supplies we had brought with us? All these questions ... and not immediate answers was starting to get to me. We were also still sneezing ... especially me and my head was aching. Leah's feet were still swollen from the trip and quite uncomfortable. So we decided to do what any two jet lagged, sneezing women sitting in the dark would do ... we prayed. We asked God for wisdom on the decisions that we had to make, we asked for power - electrical power, and for rain. Matt.7:7 says "Ask and it shall be given you..."(KJV) The power was restored and we came to some conclusion on the school supplies and donations. Again, God's hand print!
In the wee hours of this morning it started raining! How do I know - you ask? Because of that small matter I mentioned earlier ... jet lag! I was wide awake when all were asleep. My head was still aching so I just lay in the bed listening and thanking God for the rain. Now we can wear our rain boots and put our purple umbrellas to good use. Our packing was not an effort in futility. Sneezing had subsided. I said a prayer asking God to please calm my head down ... it was granted. I probably got a few hours of sleep only to be woken at dawn by a hearty rooster.
We will start our day in about three hours. We plan to visit the Giraffe Manor on what was Karen Blixen's (Out of Africa - movie and novel) farm. We may have time to visit the Bomas of Kenya where there are traditional dances representing some of the 40+ different ethnic and cultural groups in the country. But for now .... I will just be quiet and rest.💤
Prayers (Matt.7:7):
1. The swelling on Leah's feet will reduce
2. We can get past this jet lag business
3. Restored health - no more sneezing and sinus inflamation
